We
wish we could get you there in five minutes, or even
five hours, but regretfully, we are at the complete
mercy of the airlines on this occasion.
Think
of your flight as a day off. On what other occasion
would you be allowed to sit around all day, being waited
on hand and foot, those delightful flight attendants
at your beck and call. Just about any beverage at your
disposal, completely free, with reasonable meals, served
as good as you could get under the circumstances. Reading
your newspaper, or a good book, and nodding off when
ever you want. What a day!
Unbelievably,
only two scheduled airlines fly direct to our part of
Florida. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic both have
daily flights to Orlando, and British Airways have direct
flights to Tampa but not daily. If your first destination
is Anna Maria Island, and you are flying out of Gatwick,
then Delta’s route via Atlanta to Sarasota is
the most convenient. Delta also have a daily flight
out of Manchester.
A
mid-morning departure from Gatwick, short stop in Atlanta,
where you clear Customs and Immigration, arriving in
Sarasota around half past five in the evening. All airports
should be modelled on the one at Sarasota! Modern, neat
and compact, very passenger - friendly. No long, long
walks, and the rental car desks are adjacent to the
luggage carousels, with the cars themselves right outside
the door. It couldn’t be easier, a long-haul passenger
must have designed this place!
It’s
only a twenty minute, very straight forward drive to
Anna Maria Island and your apartment. In time for that
first sunset, gin and tonic in hand.
